Code of Conduct
Last updated: Version 1.0, 6 October 2026
AISUM brings together people from different backgrounds to work on hard problems. A good unconference needs everyone to feel able to speak, pitch, disagree and learn. This Code sets the floor for how we treat each other.
It applies at the venue, at any official social events, and on the attendee dashboard (including messaging and meetings booked through it) for as long as you have access.
What we expect
- Be respectful and inclusive. Assume good faith. Listen as much as you talk.
- Disagree with ideas, not people. Sharp critique is welcome; personal attacks are not.
- Ask before recording conversations or photographing individuals.
- If someone asks you to stop or change something, stop.
What we don't tolerate
- Harassment, intimidation or stalking, in person, online or through messaging.
- Demeaning or dismissive language or behaviour.
- Discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age or any other protected attribute.
- Unwelcome sexual attention. Be especially mindful where there is a power imbalance (senior/junior, session lead/attendee, funder/applicant).
- Unwanted physical contact.
- Disruptive behaviour that prevents others from taking part.
- Recording private conversations without consent.
If alcohol is served, it is never an excuse.
Reporting
If something happens, to you or to someone else, please tell us. Email michael.kerrison@aisafetyanz.com.au or speak to an organiser on the day. Reports are handled confidentially by a small number of organisers.
We will not retaliate against anyone who reports in good faith, even if the report turns out to be mistaken.
What we may do
Depending on the situation we may do nothing, have a quiet word, ask someone to change their behaviour, ask them to leave a session, remove them from the event without refund, or exclude them from future events. We will act as quickly and fairly as we can.
Agreement
By accepting this Code, you confirm you have read it and agree to follow it while taking part in AISUM.
